National Coalition Conference

This is the third national Conference of the Coalition. Today we have the opportunity to create a new public consensus for real mental health care. There is now increasing evidence that the rationing of mental health care has been a failure. Managed care has failed to live up to all its promises. It has failed clinically, morally and, now, even financially. This Conference will examine the future of mental health care and present new public education initiatives of the National Coalition. It is time to move mental health care to the top of the public’s agenda for the 21st century. The speakers for this event will discuss how we can reach consensus for this new vision. This conference will also honor the work and vision of our Founder, Karen Shore, who has led the National Coalition for nine years. Our new president, Deborah Peel, will mark this transition by presenting Karen with the First Annual Karen Shore Award for Mental Health Advocacy. She will then lead a discussion of the Inform America Campaign.
