GOOD MENTAL HEALTH
COVERAGE |
At this time mental health services are a small part of most health insurance plans. This is short sighted financially, and contributes to unnecessary suffering for many individuals. Please read the following information, and then support the Wellstone Act for equal Mental Health Care. Mental Health services are necessary to reduce health care costs. Depression costs American employers about $33 billion in lost work time and productivity. 50-70% of visits to primary care physicians for medical complaints are significantly related to psychological factors. 80-90% of all industrial accidents are related to untreated stress. The cost to American business to replace employees who resign due to work and family life conflict is $4.9 billion annually. The passage of the Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act would end this unnecessary and costly discrimination. For years Paul Wellstone championed this legislation. The Wellstone Act is common sense legislation which has 69 co-sponsors in the Senate. ACTION: CALL YOUR U.S. SENATORS at the Parity Hotline at 1-866-parity4. Ask to be connected with your Senator's office in Washington D.C.! The message is simple, It's time to pass the Paul Wellstone Mental Health Equitable Treatment Act! Warning: Managed Care is hazardous to your mental health and substance abuse treatment services. Mental health benefits were lowered by over 54% in the last fifteen years. Too few sessions are covered; this interferes with long term positive effects. There is a push to medicate not “treat” mental health problems. Treatment decisions are in the wrong hands- insurance managers, not clinicians. Privacy failures: Failure to ensure privacy deters employees from using coverage. ACTION: Get clear information and ways to help fight for affordable and accessible health care for everyone from the public interest advocacy group bringing you this message by contacting: The National Coalition of Mental Health Professionals and Consumers, Inc. http://www.thenationalcoalition.org/ America is ready for Affordable Health Care For All…NOW Vote this November 2nd as if your life depends on it…It just may. www.affordablehealthcareforall.org |
